Ranked 3rd on the list of best sandbox-style games of all time Assassin’s Creed is one of the rare game that is a blend of best graphics, best story and one of the best sandbox-style (free roaming) environment. Assassin’s Creed is ranked higher then some of the classic sandbox games like Sims and Prince of Persia. Best game in the basket of Ubisoft. After the huge success of Assassin’s Creed Ubisoft is planning a sequel of the game, Assassin’s Creed II. Ubisoft is planning to launch the game on the day of Christmas 2009. The game is under development of Ubisoft Montreal. Unlike its predecessor Assassin’s Creed II will be released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and Wii. Genre of the game will be actions adventure, Stealth and Sandbox.

To maintain the excitement in the fans nothing much is revealed about the game. It has been confirmed that the player will assume the role of a nobleman and assassin named as Ezio Auditore de Firenze. Just like the previous game Ezio is the ancestor Desmond Mile, a modern assassin who is captured by Abstergo Industries. He is also a descendant of his ancestor Altair. The protagonist of the game Ezio is a young and noble man who lost his family to rival families. In the released screenshots he is shown is carrying dual hidden blades. The game will take place in Italy of the Renaissance era. It starts during the Carnival of Venice of the year 1476, which means 285 years after the first game. The game will follow the legacy of the first game and will feature characters based on some of the most famous historical figures like Leonardo da Vinci, Caterina Sforza, Lornezo de Medici, and Niccolo Machiavelli. Few locations are confirmed by the developers so far this includes Florence, Venice, Rome and the Tuscan countryside. Specific locations will feature The Grand Canal, St Mark’s Basilica, Rialto Bridge, and the Little Canal.

According to a report by Game Informer the character in Assassin’s Creed II will have the ability to swim. He can use the ability of swimming to navigate through the canals of Venice city, use canals as hide spots and also drag guards into the water. Leonardo da Vinci will feature in the game providing new weapons to Ezio. At some unknown point in the game player can access the famous flying machine of Leonardo da Vinci and use it for being airborne using the thermals from the fires lit by friends gathered previously in the game. This time however number of missions are increased to sixteen. New Weapons included in the game are a mace, a hammer, a spear, a halberd, two smaller blades and two different types of sword. Ezio can’t use all the weapons at a single moment except the hidden blades. However he can disarm the opponents and use their weapons against them.

Tactics of Ezio will change in accordance with the player he is fighting against. Like the dagger wielders are fast and can use the same free running tactics that Ezio is using. Halberd wilders are keen to the surroundings and they will hide if they feel Ezio is nearby. On the other hand British armored troops will be strong and heavy and can do a lot damage. Health system is used will allow more dynamic and participatory experience. This indicates that the “memory sync” system will restore your health up to a point. If you are injured badly you will have to visit the street-side doctors. Other then water Ezio can also use fish cart or pile of wool to hide. One thing that is changed is now you can blend in any kind of crowd, rather than a group of white scholars in the first one. Just like Hitman: Blood Money player will get more and more notorious as he advances further into the game. To decrease the notoriety player can go several missions like using bribes, getting rid of poster of Ezio’s face and assassinating witnesses. Assassin’s Creed II will have a night and day cycle to give the feeling of passage of time.

Assassin’s Creed II was officially confirmed by Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot on November 26, 2008. it was announced during the company’s financial report. Michael Pachter later speculated that the game will be set in French revolution, which later turned out to be false. Assassin’s Creed II was again confirmed on January 22, 2009 but no details were revealed. On April 2, a promotional video was released by Ubisoft featuring some designs of hidden blades and a skull. Ezio was shown for the first time to the world on April 16, 2009 by Game Informer Magazine and the game was announced officially by Ubisoft. Confirming the validness of the Game informer article, one can see on the Assassin’s Creed website that Game Informer 4.16.09 is above the center icon in the page, only readable when held up to a mirror as Da Vinci often wrote his journals and other writings. According to the Ubisoft there are total 240 people working on the title. So get ready to travel in the past and discover which events are responsible for the shape of today’s world.
