Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason is dual genre game with Survival horror presented in a first person shooter prespective. It is developed by Action Forms and published by Action Forms and 505 Games. Atmos Fear 2.0 is the game engine used in the game. Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason released only for Microsoft Windows. It released in Europe on February 27 and in North America on April 20, 2009.
Gameplay of Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason features a unique system called Mental Echo. In this system you will have the ability to penetrate the memory of the character and change the actions taken by that character in the past. With the help of Mental Echo you can save people’s lives by taking over their bodies in their memories and thus changing the history. In an available video for the game protagonist of the game is shown entering memories of cow carcass, and revealing that the final moments of the animal were in a slaughter house before being decapitated. Settings for the game are awesome and this cold blooded game environment makes it brilliant.

Cryostasis starts on a nuclear icebreaker in the year 1981. The ship known as North Wind gets wrecked near North Pole. Protagonist of the game is named as Alexander Nesterov, and serves as Russian meteorologist. His mission is to investigate what happened on the ship. Problem is that he is not alone, and North Wind is plagued by dead crewmen who have undergone a bizarre metamorphosis. The player learns about what happened on the ship as he advances through the game. He discovers that it was Captains fault and he didn’t notice the warnings and of his first officer. When struck in ice first officer radioed the news to the HQ. It is ordered by the HQ to return to the port for decommissioning. Shocked by the news and lack of support from the staff captain rammed the ship into an iceberg. Crew starts to repair the damage over the time of several weeks. They started to change into ice-zombies. At the end of the game player meets Chronos, god of time. He gives the player an opportunity to correct the tragedy.
Cryostasis is the first game to use Nvidia PhysX real-time water physics. These settings for the game were shown in a video for the game engine. These real-time water settings will help to enhance the feeling of survival horror. A new PC demo was released for the game on April 30, 2009. Most of the reviews for Cryostasis are in the positive direction and most of the gaming magazines and websites gave it positive reviews. However there are few technical faults in the game. Biggest fault for the game was that it doesn’t utilize multi-core CPU support, and it avoids the game to run smoothly. Thus loosing a big fan base. Not using a multi-core system is a very uncommon mistake as most of the modern game requires multi-core systems.
