DC Universe Online (DCOU) is and MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) under the development of Sony Online Austin. It will be published by Sony Online Entertainment. Executive Creative Director of the game will be Jim Lee together with JJ Kirby, Oliver Nome, Carlos D’Anda, Livio Ramondelli, Michael Lopez and Eddie Nunez. Developers from EverQuest Shawn Lord and Chris Cao are also involved. First conceptual part of the game was released on July 4, 2008 and the first trailer for the game was released on July 14th, 2008, followed by new concept art and screenshots for the game were released on the next day. For better feedback developers held a Q&A on the same day to give the fans a chance to ask questions about the gameplay and other aspects of the game. Later it was revealed on the Myspace page of DCOU that the first public demo of the game would be shown in the Comic-Con International. Information about the Comic-Con International has also surfaced with a video showing the making of the game. DC Universe Online is scheduled for release either late 2009 or early 2010, in the genre of MMORPG. Platforms considered are PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.

DC Universe Online is set in DC Universe and the gameplay of the game is basic Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game. One of the main inspirations of the game is The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. SOE want this game to be different from other MMORPG’s. Main focus of SOE is that without losing the key elements like leveling and inventories of RPG’s Dc Universe should look more interactive. The world shown in the game will be shared, public space instead of Heroes or villains having their own territory. Public space features will be content generated dynamically for both hero and villain player character. This feature will result in interesting Player versus Player or PvP battles. Player will chose a City for their character, like Metropolis, Arkham Asylum and Gotham. Depending on whether you chose to be a hero or villain you will be given a Justice League or Legion of Doom Communicator. Character’s commitment will affect the game that is played, for example a Villain will rob a truck or bank whereas a hero will save some one from being robbed or save the bank. Threat ratings will cause Heroes and villains to interact with each other. A demo was featured on IGN showing various Heroes as well as villains.
