Bethesda Game Studios video game developers based in Rockville, United States. They are famous for their excellence in role-playing, racing and simulation games. Bethesda Game Studios develop one of the longest running game series The Elder Scrolls with 14 games in the series. Other important games developed by Bethesda Game Studios include Fallout series, Star Trek series and Doom 4 (to be released in 2010). Most notable of the games is Fallout 3, third entry in the Fallout series. First game of the series Fallout was released in the year 1997 followed by Fallout 2 in 1998. The third game however took 10 years for the completion. Fallout 3 is from the genre of action role-playing game. Fallout 3 was released between October 28 and 31 all over the world for the platforms of Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows. The game was received with full critical and commercial success. Background of Fallout is a post-apocalyptic, retro-futurist Washington D.C. and parts of Maryland and Virginia in the year 2277. Main player of the game lives in Fallout shelter known as Vault 101. The player lives in the shelter along with his father until one day when he wakes up to find that James has left the Vault. When the overseer finds out that James father of the player (PC) is missing, he becomes suspicious and orders his men to kill the PC. PC is forced to go out in the Washington wasteland, and follow his father’s tail and find out why he left. On his quest, he encounters various factions like the outcasts a group of brotherhood of steel exiles, the Enclave leftovers of the United States. There are total six vaults in the Washington that can be explored. Most of them showing the results of the “Vault Experiment”. The character of is a nineteen years old boy who is simply called as player character or PC. In search of his father, he explores various areas of Washington starting from Megaton a place named after the undetonated atomic bomb at its centre, followed by Galaxy News Radio station. Another human settlements in the area is Rivet City a derelict aircraft carrier. PC meets doctor Li, a scientist earlier worked with player’s father and tells him about Project Purity carried for take out radiation from water of wasteland.
Initially Fallout 3 was assigned with Black Isle Studios, original developers of Fallout and Fallout 2. Black Isle Studios was original owned by Interplay Entertainment. When interplay went bankrupt, license of Fallout 3 was sold to Bethesda Softworks. They paid an advance of $1,175,000. At the time of purchasing of the license, Bethesda Softworks was famous for The Elder Scroll series. Work again started on Fallout 3 in July 2004. But major development for the game did not begin until The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was completed. First trailer for the game was released on June 5, 2007. With press kit of the game, it was also revealed that the game will release in fall 2008. Destroyed Washington was showed in the trailer, which was confirmed by an damaged Washington Monument. On release, Fallout 3 registered some of the best results both commercially and critically. Average score Fallout 3 was 93/100. This success was followed by n number of awards it won later. In the award list, it won IGN award for the Overall and Best Xbox 360 game of the year 2008. GameSpot gave away the Best PC Game of 2008. Fallout 3 is one of the best game of the modern generation.
