Guitar Hero is the greatest music game ever released. From kids to the oldies and from average people to celebrities all love Guitar Hero. A new edition in the Guitar Hero series Guitar Hero: Smash Hits is under development of Beenox. The game was previously known as Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits. Guitar Hero: Smash Hits will be distributed by gaming giants Activision. It will be the fourth expansion in the world famous Guitar Hero series, after successful games like Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. It will support the full band play first introduced to the series in Guitar Hero Word tour. It will feature 48 songs from previous games of the franchise. Guitar Hero: Smash Hits will be released for PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii. Guitar Hero: Smash Hits will be released on June 16, 2009. So, you are just two months away from grasping yet another masterpiece from Guitar Hero series.
Gameplay of Guitar Hero: Smash Hits is similar to Guitar Hero World Tour. The game will support a four instruments full band: Lead Guitar, bass guitar, drums and vocal. Other than the master recording for each song, the songs have been charted to use open bass strumming. This feature of open bass strumming was first seen in World Tour. Many songs are recharted or remixed to be more accessible to the full band. For example, “I Love Rock N Roll” includes a drum vocals solo without guitar portions that was omitted in the original Guitar Hero and the piano introduction in “Killer Queen” will be tapped out by the lead guitar player. Another mode included the game is “Expert+” mode. This mode was first used in the Guitar Hero: Metallica that uses double-bass drum pedals. Graphical interface of the game is borrowed from Metallica. Rearrangements of the on-screen meters for band mode is the main feature of the graphical interface. A Music Studio creation mode, which will be compatible with GHTunes, is also included in Smash Hits. One of the main attraction of the Smash Hits is game mode featuring single player and band career modes and the 8-player “Battle of the Band” mode. Smash Hits will feature players performing against the “God of Rock” to play at venues at various Wonders of the World. After each of the venue is completed player will earn venues specific clothing to customize their avatars.

Guitar Hero: Smash Hits was first announced in early 2009 along with two additional titles for the Guitar Hero series in 2009. Initially name of the game was Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits but it was changed afterwards when the cover arts for the game was released to various vendor sites. According to Paul Gadbois, developer at Beenox Studios their goal for the game was to focus on the music from the past games in the series. One of the core features the developers were focusing first was selection of soundtracks. Choosing the wonders of the world as the venues due to the fact that they will play greatest songs at the greatest venues. Original Guitar Hero crew was reused in the game. The option of playing celebrities in the game, as it was done in Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero: Metallica. Reason was fear of that start power will outshone the music selection. Venues for the game include “Grand canyon”, Polar Ice caps and Amazon Rain Forest. Full list of the songs will be released in the month of April 2009, by allowing users to vote on the order of the remastered tracks from the previous games.
