Highlander: The game is the new game of the Highlander franchise still to be released. It’s an action role-playing game published by Eidos interactive for Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and PlayStation 3. Its first trailers were released on 14^th of January. But due to some problems its release was pushed back and it will now release on 25^th March 2009. Highlander runs on the famous Unreal Engine.

The game will be a third person action game and feature an unknown immortal, Owen MacLeod as the main character. He was also featured in the previous game of the franchise. As the main character is immortal, he’ll not die from wounds that are fatal to mortals such as gunshots, electricity shocks and falls from great height. In the gameplay, Owen has to face certain encounters such as using his body as a conductor for high voltage electrical currents or jumping off a building. Though these actions will not kill him, he will be severely injured. Over and above his ability to withstand otherwise lethal attacks. Owen will be able to use many magical abilities such as Resurrection, Fireblade, Stone armor wind fury and many more. 

Like the previous Highlander immortals in the franchise, Owen must wield various types of swords to do battle with other Immortals. One additional feature is that you can also choose your Swordfighting styles to defeat his enemies. The game will span up to 18 missions in which Owen will face maximum of 77 unique characters. Most of the characters in the game are immortals just like Owen and have to be slain. Some of these characters are from previous game of the franchise such as Connor Macleod and Duncan Macleod are both expected to make appearance. Methos has been confirmed as Owens’s mentor.

David Abramowitz is the writer of the main story line; he is also Creative Consultant for Highlander: series. Main story revolves around Owen MacLeod; he is ancestor to both Connor MacLeod and Duncan MacLeod. It starts two thousand years ago in Rome. And similar to other Highlander media, the story spans several timelines including ancient Gaul, Pompeii, and finally modern day New York City. Owen is captured and enslaved by Romans who force him to compete as a gladiator. During this time, Owen dies only to return to life. Methos oldest living immortal approaches Owen as his mentor. He teaches Owen about The Game and how can immortals be finished by beheading them. Just like other immortal Macleods, Owen is chased throughout his life by an arc nemesis. However, this enemy is extremely powerful and Owen is unable to defeat his arch nemesis. Its then he learns about a magic stone, fragments of which are scattered all over the world. Now main objective of Owen is to collect those fragments to overcome his enemy.

Its one of the most awaited sequel of all time and not only does it look like it will be nice and bloody, but the graphics look damn sweet too. Highlander: The Game enables gamers to exploit the powers of immortality and manipulate situations that death would normally prevent in order to combat the forces of evil. So let’s see how it goes, wait until March ending and experience the immorality.
