Jumpgate Evolution or more commonly known as JGE is a game from the genre of massively multiplayer online game (MMOPG). Jumpgate Evolution is a direct sequel to the 2001 video game Jumpgate: The Reconstruction Initiative. The game will be completely different from the previous game with all new graphics engine used along with more accessible gameplay and game play. The game is developed by NetDevil and Codemasters oldest game developers of United Kingdom will publish the game. The game will only release for the platform of Microsoft Windows. Initially the game was scheduled for the release on June 23, 2009, but developers delayed the release for some unknown reasons. A beta test is also planned for the release but again release date is not confirmed. Using the official websites those who are interested can apply for the beta test. The beta test is quite popular and since November 10, 2008 150,000 applicants had registered for the beta test.
Gameplay of Jumpgate Evolution or JGE is twitch-based combat in an MMOG. If you hit your target the damage caused will be steady. Everything in the game will have a limit damage caused by the ordinance will be limited and armors and shields will have a set amount of damage. In the start players will have to choose a nation, however it is not necessary to play in the same nation through out the game you can change it later. Once the country is selected you can buy a ship which suits you most. However, they will need to obtain a pilot license first. Jumpgate evolution will offer both PvP (player versus Player) and PvE (player versus environment) content. PvP will be the centre focus of the game but PvE will have its own Instance dungeon with own experience points and rewards. Risk rewards environment is also being implemented in the game, like death sentence for the people who prefer more hardcore gameplay. Realm versus realm (RvR) gameplay, like players claiming a sector for their nation by building up a sector control station. Squads are limited to players from nations in the previous game and will play a more important role.
Factions or nations in the game will be the same as in the previous game of the series. However the conditions of the nations are changed a lot because of the an event called the shift an space distortion event. Till now only three nations are playable, Quantar Paths, The Octavian Empire and The Solrain Commonwealth. Conditions of these nations are changed, Quantar Paths an unified in the previous game is now a group of more than twelve sects known as Paths. All these sects are different from each other and only thing common between them is the belief that human destiny is somewhere in the stars and a jumpgate network called as Skein will guide the enthusiasts. The Solrain Commonwealth was once a generous nation now what is left is corruption and fraud. It is now ruled by smugglers, powerful corporations, crime syndicates and many mercenaries. The Octavian Empire an militaristic and destructive nations struggling for its former glory. Seat for the empire of the nation is vacant and it is the most important reason for the struggles in the nation. Other nations under development are The Conflux, The Amananth and The Hyperial Protectorate.
