Kingdom Heart Birth by Sleep is an upcoming game by SquareEnix. SquareEnix is famous for Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy titles, and is often known by the name of these two games. They are so busy with these two titles that they hardly get time for other games. Now they came up with a new title, so it would be refreshing to see new title from SquareEnix. Kingdom Hearst Birth by Sleep will be an action role-playing game. It will be a prequel to first Kingdom Heart game, taking place ten years before and it features many unexplained elements of the game. Available only on PlayStation Portable it will release in Summer 2009 in Japan. Releasing dates for other territories are still to be announced.

Kingdom Heart Birth by Sleep is a single-player action role-playing game and focuses on melee style fighting. Gameplay is similar to the previous titles of the franchise. Kingdom Heart Birth by Sleep is divided in three scenarios and each scenario will feature different gameplay based on the three main characters: Terra, Ventus, and Aqua. Players can play any of the three scenarios and can stop mid-way through one scenario to begin another. There are several new features included in the game, one such feature is “Focus”, and it’s a first person-targeting mode. Focus mode is based on the story of Ventus and each character will have a special attack mode that allows them to perform different magic-based attacks. The enemies of the game are “Unbirths”; they are new to the series but are connected to the Heartless and Nobodies enemies of the earlier game.

Kingdom Heart Birth by Sleep starts 10 years earlier of the first Kingdom Heart game. Main focus of the game is on the story of three apprentices that wield keyblades before the series’ main protagonist Sora. Kingdom Heart Birth by Sleep is not centered on a single scenario it features, but the Ven’s identity is one of the main theme. The story revolves around three keyblades and apprentices and their missing Keyblade master. The main antagonist is Maleficent. There are numerous characters of Disney in the game, just like the previous titles. In addition to original characters of Terra, Ventus, and Aqua there are few more characters including King Mickey, Donald Duck, and many more.

A playable demo of the game was released on 10^th October 2008. The demo was well received by all the game critics’ sites and magazines. IGN expressed their excitement for the release of game in 2009. Metacritic stated that they can’t wait for the game. There are few complaints though those are registered about the Ventus demo.
