
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate or (NWN2: MOW) is a part of adventure pack for Neverwinter Nights 2. It is developed by Ossian Studio and published by Atari. The game released under the genre of Computer role-playing game. Most famous and mysterious grounds of Fantasy world the Forgotten Realms, locale of Westgate will be the base for the game. The game will feature Night Masks, previously seen in The Cleric Quintet novels and The Harpers series novel Masquerades. Sometime Night Masks are considered as the most furious characters of the fantasy based settings. The game is only being available on Microsoft Windows. The game engine used in NWN2: MOW is Electric Engine. It is a 3D game engine based on BioWare’s Aurora Engine. Before the release of Neverwinter Nights 2 the engine was promised to have faster graphics and pixel-based shading technology and very efficient with that settings. But everything was proved wrong after the release of the game, the engine was criticized by many experts. The engine was specially criticized for running sluggishly on many machines and lack of optimization. Predecessor of the game were well functioning on Windows as well as other platforms. However, Electron Engine has no support for other platforms. There will not be a multiplayer mode in the game, it only feature single player mode. Luke Scull is the main designer of the game.

On a minimum estimate, there will be 15 hours of gameplay in the game. It will have different voiceovers, assets and music when compared to previous games of the pack. According to a short summary, the game is: “Set in Forgotten Realms City of Westgate. The player will find themselves possessing a powerful but cursed treasure that threatens to destroy them. The treasure is linked to the Underworld organization known as Night Masks. The treasure will attract players into a city and causing clashes between military factions from both the sides. Objective or the motive of the player is to break the curse on the treasure and uncover the dangerous plot that threatens Westgate itself.
The development of Mysteries of Westgate ended in late 2007, but the game was not released due to some copy protection controversy. According to Atari, they were facing copy protection solutions that met Atari’s requirements. This report was not well received by the fans and it produced an outrage in the fans community. According to a report the 1.12 Update as not available for the game, so they waited for 1.13 to be released on June 30, 2008. Even after the release of 1.13 Mysteries of Westgate remained unreleased with no official word on its status. Nothing was revealed about the release dates of the game even on websites like GameSpy and IGN. Finally surprising everyone Ossian announced on April 17, 2009 that hat Mysteries of Westgate would be released April 29, 2009. This time it became available on the given date.
