Patapon 2 is a game developed by Pyramid, Japan Studio. It is a direct sequel to Patapon. Patapon 2 will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Just like its predecessor Patapon 2 will also be released on PlayStation Portable. Release date for North America is May 5, 2009. Patapon 2 will be a multi genre game to be released under the genre of Real-time tactics, god game, and rhythm game. Designer of the game Hiroyuki Kotani has revealed that Patapon 2 can hold upto four players in the multiplayer mode. Further he revealed that the multiplayer mode originated from the stems from the single mode, while the former one will involve from giant eggs. These eggs are said to contain useful items like smaller eggs. In order to hatch the egg four players have to save the egg on the enemies’ battleground. Moving it to a special egg-hatching altar. Once you reach the altar you have to perform an egg hatching ceremony, it involves playing their rhythms to crack the egg open.

There are many new characters in the game, like The Robopon with huge fists, Toripon who rides on bird, and Mahapon who is a magic using character. The Gong leader of the Zigtons is the favorite of Hiroyuki Kotani. Gong is expected to return in Patapon 2. He was seen in the demo with a new helmet and his zigotons not far behind him. Patapon 2 will also see new antagonist as Karmen and the Akumapon. Karmen belongs to the same continent while Akumapon is an evil tribe led by dark position. It’s a shadow star that commands the legion with 3 generals. Earlier in the game Zigtons act as enemies of the Patapon because Gong wants revenge for their defeat. However, he later chose to help Patapons to defeat Akumapon. Story of the Patapon 2 continues from where it leaves in Patapon. Patapons have created a boat and they have set sails for new lands. While returning home they are attacked by a kraken. The keakens easily defeats Patapons and leave them in the ocean to be washed ashore to a strange land. On this strange land they have to face another tribe known as Karmen. Now Patapon have to fight Karmen and find out who is there real enemy.

Change that every body was waiting for in the game is inclusion of 3 new units for each group and another way to access new patapon classes. First unit is Toripon a flying bird unit. There are expert in throwing spears from higher ground. They can generate extra firepower to the Patapons, but they are prone to anti air weapons. Second new unit is Robopon, a brawler unit. They take advantage of the Charge Song which gives it a rock throwing attack with shocking results. Mahapon is the third and the final unit, they not effective in the starting of the game. They offer different blessings to the players and also have a godly stave allowing a strong chain lighting attack on the opponent. Some of the major changes in the game are:

Robopon — Spinning hands. Good against obstacles and fast attacks.

Toripon — Explosive javelin. Dishes out major damage.

Tatepon — Invincibility. All units are protected from damage but still can freeze.

Kibopon — Power Charge. Constantly charges at enemies. Acts like a drill.

Yaripon — Explosive spear. Dishes out major damage.

Yumipon — Piercing arrows. Causes burn. Shoots three at a time.

Mahopon — Meteor shower. Dishes out good damage but slow.

Dekapon — Rotating swing strike. Unit rotates with hammer sticking out.

Megapon — Triple power shot. Fires three blue symbols. Deals high damage esp. on bosses.

As a marketing strategy Sony Computer Entertainment America is planning to release the Patapon 2 as on test case, digital download via PlayStation Store. Voucher will be made available for the game as a retail sale. All the regions will receive the game on UMD.
