“It’s better to be dead then red” we are talking about Red Faction series. After the success of Red Faction and Red Faction 2 games Volition, Inc. the developers of the game series are developing third part of the series. The title of the game is Red Faction: Guerilla and it will be a third person shooter. Just like the other games of the series Red Faction games Guerrilla will be published by industry biggy THQ. PC version of the game is assigned to Reactor Zero for publishing. Scheduled release dates for the release of the game are June 2, 2009 and August 25, 2009 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Red Faction: Guerilla will make use of Geo-Mod 2.0 engine (Geography Modification). It will allow player to alter the geographic modifications in the environment around them. Along with Geo-Mod it will also use Havok, the famous Physics Engine. The game will release under Third-person shooter and Sandbox genre of gaming.

Year 2208 is when the game starts. It takes place nearly 50 years after the events of first game of the series Red Faction. EDF (Earth Defense Force) the allies in the first game of the series are now main antagonist of Guerrilla. People are kidnapped by the organization and putting them in camps where they are tortured to work for their own profit. Players are given the role of Alec Mason. He is a former miner who rebels against The EDF. In the released screenshots of the game Alec is seen wearing cargo trousers with a green jacket. Another man seen in the background is unknown. Reason for his involvement in the war against EDF is because his brother was murdered. After his brother murder he joined Red Faction which was recently re-formed. Motto of Red Faction is “Better Red than Dead”. Most of the game takes place on Terraformed surface of Mars. Some other locations like Ultor labs are also included to pay homage to the first Red Faction. One more interesting feature of the game is after you finish the game the playable character of the game changes to Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 instead of Alec Masons pickaxe.

Red Faction: Guerilla will be played from third person perspective, going different from the previous games of the Red Faction series, which were played from first person. Alec Mason can run, jump, hijack vehicles and can use transverse across the world of Mars and Fight their prime enemy EDF (Earth Defense Force). There are many weapons in the game, which will include rocket turrets, machine gun turrets, a sledgehammer, remote charger, machine guns, and many others. Radio messaging is included in the game; it will allow various characters to give information to Alec. GPS and a two part HUD will be there for display the in-game objectives and orders have been included. Cover system in the game. An all new integrated cover system is also included in the game. Multiplayer mode will feature equipable “Backpack” items. Under the multiplayer section 10 of such backpacks are revealed by the developers. Each will be different on functioning like allow players to see through walls, making them invisible and healing the friends. Single player mode will only feature one Backpack.

There will be a multiplayer mode for the game. It will allow up to sixteen players on a server at one time. It will not be Alec in the multiplayer mode and instead it will be many kind of different characters. There will be different kind of modes of multiplayer in the game. Some are announced for Xbox live but others are still to be announced. One of the announced in which leader destroys land for points and his teammates provide cover for him. This was for online multiplay and for offline multiplay there will be a mode called Wreckage Crew. There will be many features in Wreckage Crew, all of them based on causing as much as damage to with limited amount of resources like ammo and time.
