Return to Mysterious Island II is a direct sequel for Return to Mysterious Island released in 2004. Both the games are based on the work of Jules Verne, The Mysterious Island. It will be released on Microsoft Windows and Apple iPhone under the genre of Adventure. It will have single and online play modes. Just like the previous game Return to Mysterious Island II is under development of Kheops Studio and will be published by Microids. Microids is one of the oldest game publishing company. Some of the notable games published by Microids are Dracula 3 – The Path of the Dragon, Nostradamus: The Last Prophecy, Sinking Island.

A sequel to Return to Mysterious Island was announced on November 25, 2008 by Microids. The game is under development of Kheops studio since April, 2008. Initial date for the release of the game was March 2009. Now an update by Microids state that the game will be release in June 2009. First, the game was about to release only on for PC users, later it was also assigned to release for Apple iPhone users. Official website for the game also displays a Cryo Interactive logo, a company that Microids purchased in 2008 from The Adventure Company. It is the same company from which Kheops took the development of the original Return to Mysterious.

Famous character from the original Return to Mysterious is back, however her pet monkey Jep is playable now. The player can switch back and forth between the two. Both of them will have their own abilities like- Mina can read documents as hints and use many kind of tools and weapons, whereas Jep can go to unreachable places and can talk with other monkeys. The game will have an unique feature of synchronizing with the player’s iPhone. Now many parts of the game like Puzzles can be solved on iPhone and then again, game is reintegrated again. Players can also communicate with other players online.

Again, the player have to survive against nature on a lonely island, but this time they will also fight and save island from an environmental disaster. The game starts with a rescue helicopter crash. It was the same helicopter that was assigned with the rescue of Mina. She survives the crash, but is still on the island. An unknown disease is attacking the plants and animals of the island. According to the search carried over by Mina the reason for the disease is a external Source. Only way to save the island is to turn on the shield. Only problem to turn on the shield is once it is on Mina will not be able to return to her normal world. The twist of the game seems like Captain Nemo.
