Star Wars: The Old Republic is yet another game based in the one of the most famous fictional universe ever created The Star Wars Universe. BioWare the name behind many Star War games is developing the game under their studio BioWare Austin along with a supplement team. The game is developed at BioWare Edmonton. Star Wars: The Old Republic will be published by Lucas Arts. The game will be released under the genre of MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) The game was announced in an invitation only press event held on October 21, 2008. Microsoft Windows is the only platform the game will be released on. A novelization item is believed to be released around the game. However, release date is yet to be announced by the developers. Star Wars: The Old Republic will use the Lucas Arts award wining HeroEngine.

Story of then game takes place in the fictional universe Stars Wars and starts shortly after the establishment of weak peace between reemerging Sith Empire and the Galactic republic. The game took place 3700 years before the events of the Star Wars films and 300 years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Responsibility of the success of the Sith is on the head of Jedi. Korriban is controlled by the Sith and they are planning to re-established a Sith Academy. That’s where the conflict starts. Dark Horse, BioWare and Lucas Arts together developed a webcomic named as “Star Wars: The Old Republic: Threat of Peace”. Main purpose of the comic is to give the game a story set up when it opens.

There will be two main factions in the game Sith Empire and Galactic Republic. Both of them will have different moralities. Key focus of the game will be differentiating between the player’s morality and faction. Each faction will have different classes and each of the class will have different backstory and a branching storyline they will be affected by player’s moral choice. Three classes are confirmed so far Smuggler and The Trooper for Galactic Republic and for Sith Empire it is the Bounty Hunter. Although each class will have a different storyline, there stories will be integrated at some point in the game. The game will provide access to dozens of planets. This will include Tython, Korriban, Nal Hutta, and Ord Mantell.

Star Wars: The Old Republic will be first game for BioWare to be released under the genre of MMORPG and second Star War game after Star Wars Galaxies. According to the BioWare, they were long interested to work on MMORPG but waited for the right partners. BioWare realize in October 2008 that all of their games combined have less story content then this single game. writing team for the game is working longer then any other game, there are 12 full time storywriters for Star Wars: The Old Republic. First trailer for the game was released at the Electronic Arts 2009 E3 Press Conference on first of June. An internet comic will be released around the release of the game. the comic will be released twice a week. Name of the comic is Threat of Peace.
