Far Cry is one the four game that are regarded as pillars of First person Shooter (FPS) genre. Developed by Crytek, German game developers and published by Ubisoft, it hit the market on March 23, 2004 and within the period of four months is sold more than 730,000 units. A sequel to the game was released on October 23, 2008 and it changed the history of gaming. Instead of Crytek Far Cry 2 was developed and published by Ubisoft. Development of the game took place in the Montreal studio of Ubisoft which better known as Ubisoft Montreal. Although Ubisoft marked Far Cry 2 as a true sequel of the previous one, but there was no similarity in the two games, even the protagonist of the game was changed. Dunia and Havok Physics were used as the game engine. Dunia was developed specially for Far Cry 2 by Ubisoft Montreal. It was because of Dunia and Havok that the game is so unique about its graphics and dynamic weather. The game was released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Far Cry 2 is based in a fictional troubled nation in Central Africa in the year 2008. The nation is involved in an civil war and many mercenaries have been called by the two main factions of the country fighting for power. Two faction in the game are APR (Alliance for Popular Resistance) lead by Oliver Tambossa and UFLL (United Front Liberation and Labour) lead by Addi Mbantuwe. Both of the factions are corrupt and their only interest is money and power. To win the war both sides have hired many mercenaries and protagonist of the game is one of them. Adding to the woes is the discovery of diamond mines with all the factions and foreign mercenaries without payment are fighting  for them. Player has to fight against all these factions and soldiers and also the major villain of the game the Jackal. He is arm dealer providing weapons to both to the factions and increasing the war. Aim of then player in the game is to find Jackal and kill him. Most of the soldiers in the game will be enemies except few friends which will include mercenaries. The game is divided in 4 acts with each having two endings. Be a mercenary and fight for money, diamond and blood.

Crackdown is the one of the most successful game of the sandbox-style genre. It is one of the game under Microsoft’s strategy to promote Xbox 360 as it can be played only on the platform of Xbox 360. It was created by David Jones, the man behind Grand Theft Auto. It sold more then 1.5 million copies in first six moths of its release. A sequel for the game is under development, it will be named Crackdown 2. Just like the predecessor genre for the game will be sandbox-style third person shooter video game. Crackdown is under the development of Ruffian Games and will be published by Microsoft Game Studios. It will be released for Xbox 360. No release dates are announced by the developers. Designers for the game are Billy Thomson and Steve Iannetta. Crackdown 2 is modeled like the previous game of the series. It will be a third person shooter in open world gameplay. The player will be a super human simply known as “Agent”, working for city-funded Agency. Just like the predecessor Crackdown 2 will support a seamless so-operative play in the main game. Only difference will be the number of players is now increased to four from two in the previous. A new mode will feature in the game, known as competitive mode will support up to sixteen players. Overall gameplay of the game will be mostly similar to the predecessor.

Plot of the game was reveled at E3 2009. Agent will be the playable character of the game. He will roam in a fictional Pacific City, which is infected with urban gang War. He assists Agency in the battle against numerous crime kings who controls the city. There are some strange looking creatures shown in the trailer. This indicates that Agent will have to deal with more powerful enemies that the previous street gangs. The game will be set many years after Crackdown. This was reported by Billy Thomson who is creative director of Ruffian Games. Previously he along with Phil Wilson confirmed that game was designed from the beginning of the series. They stated that there will be sequels for the game. later it was commented that Realtime Worlds was not working on a sequel to the game. However, Microsoft stated that they still got the holds the intellectual property rights to Crackdown and there will be a sequel very soon. The game was confirmed in the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo Conference. This time however it was an official announcement and the game was finally off to a start.

It was noted by Ruffian that half of the team that formerly worked on Crackdown in all the areas of the game development, and felt that their studio will be a perfect place to develop games sequel. This decision was later confirmed by the publishers. Development team decided to keep the sequel to be located in Pacific City. Settings for the previous game got the character of its own in the first game and the development team want to conserve these settings so that player will feel similar to the previous game. The City however got a bit more larger then the previous time. Developers avoided any possible similarity in the dialog driven cutscenes. Gameplay parts that were criticized previous time were also improved. Mechanical part of the game was kept similar, only change to the game engine is that now it will allow the display of the large view for the City. Every other thing will be unique about the game, like music of the game. Everything for the game was kept confidential with Microsoft. This will help to attach all the sensory experience of the game.

Left 4 Dead best survival horror game ever, this game is often regarded as the one of the best example of sandbox style of games. The developers for the game Valve Corporation was planning a sequel to Left 4 Dead since the day it was released. Left 4 dead 2 is under the development of Valve Corporation and will be released exactly a year after the release of Left 4 Dead that is on November 17, 2009. It will release on the consoles of Xbox 360 an Microsoft Windows. The game will be distributed by Steam and will use the Source engine. Left 4 Dead 2 was revealed for the first time at E3 2009 with a trailer during the press event of Microsoft. Following the steps of Left 4 Dead, this sequel will be based in the shadows of some kind of apocalyptic plague, that is turning humans into zombie like mutants. This plague is forcing the survivors to make their way through the mass to the extractions points using the safehouses in the way. This time the game starts from Savannah, Georgia and ends up in New Orleans, Louisiana. The four new survivors for the game will be introduced with their backstories through dialogue in the game, just like the previous game. Four new survivors are Rochelle, a reporter of a local cable company, Coach a high school football coach, Nick a gambler and Ellis a mechanic. According to Valve, Left 4 Dead 2 will also explain the cause of the zombies in the first game. Story of the game also connects the two narratives of the Left 4 Dead games.

Left 4 Dead 2 is a First person shooter game like the previous game, some of the scenes are presented in third person or pre-rendered movies. In the main campaign mode of the game four players can play in the co-operative mode of the game. There will be five new campaigns, each featuring different number of chapters. All the non-playing survivors will be controlled by computer. Main objective in each chapter is to reach the safehouse location after struggling through hordes of infected zombies. To reach and secure the extraction point in each campaign will be the final chapter. This whole mode will be controlled by AI Director, Its an artificial intelligence engine that will monitor the players performance and change the challenges for the players as they progress through the game. for survival, players will have to access improved weapons like melee weapons such as an axe, baseball bat, chainsaw and a frying pan. A silenced machine gun is the new entry in the weapon section. Zombies will also have some modifications like there will be some zombies who are immune to fire.

Valve stared working on Left 4 Dead 2 just after the release of Left 4 Dead. In order to save the game to be leaked it was code named as “ Carnation”. Left 4 Dead explore more map then the previous one. The story from Valve is full to include cause and effects of the plague. Initially developers were thinking of a female character from the Department of Motor Vehicles, but that doesn’t worked out in the end. ESRB Forces Valve to change the cover page of the game. Original image showed the pinky and ring finger of the iconic hand torn off in addition to the torn-off thumb. To made ESRB calm down Valve change the figure and fingers were made bent again.

Dead Island is an upcoming videogame being developed by polish developers Techland. They are famous for their games like Call of Juarez and Chrome. It will be released on Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. It will be an open-ended game centered on survival. Main protagonist of the game has to find his wife on an infested island. Game is mainly played from a first person prospective. However, the developers are promising to that the game will not be just first person shooter game as it basically focuses on melee combat and ammunition conservation rather than a shoot ‘em up. The official website is still under construction. Techland is also working for Dead Islands PlayStation 3 version. In an interview Techland announced that they will soon develop a PlayStation 3 version.

Gameplay of Dead Island is mixture of First Person Shooter and melee combat. It will feature a sandbox style gameplay on a tropical island. The gameplay is separated by many loading screens. Dead Island features a multilayer damage system. While playing against the zombies there are various factions like military and bandits you can join in. Main zombies are George A Romero’s slow walking zombies, but there will be more then two kinds of zombie. In a melee combat you can pick up anything to use like a weapon. Firearms will be there but the ammo will be hard to find. According to the developers this step was taken to give game a more realistic survival horror feel.

Game starts as a recently married couple are to a vacation of their dreams but it is all get spoiled as there plane crashes to a remote pacific island. Adding to their woes that island turn out to be a zombie infested island. Mike Jennings is the name of the protagonist of the game. He lost his wife on the island now he has to find his wife as well as find out what caused the zombie outbreak. Other than zombies he has to deal with various human factions that inhibit island. Game is expected to be a good survival horror game. It will be released in late or mid of 2009.
