The famous Riddick franchise is back with a boom. Expanding the franchise a new game The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is under development. Just like the other two games of the franchise Dark Athena will be a science fiction FPS (first-person-shooter) action game. It will release PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox 360. It will be a direct sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. Some of the campaigns are remade and are included in the Dark Athena campaigns. The game will release on April 7, 2009. A playable demo will be available on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live in early March.
Dark Athena is developed by Sweden based Starbreeze Studios and will be published by the oldest gaming company Atari. Head of Production Ian Stevens at Tigon stated that the decision remake was taken by the company because of the fact that Xbox 360 will not do the backward compatibility with Escape from Butcher Bay. The target of Starbreeze was to get the story of Escape to larger audience.

The main character of the game is played by action hero Vin Diesel. The character he plays is Riddick a titular anti-hero. His sensory abilities are very high and he uses them to listen and see beyond human range. Player has to break out galaxy’s most deadly prison in a nicely presented first person action. Dark Athena is expected to have improved AI & graphics from Escape. An additional feature of the game is Multiplayer option. The single player mode is also expanded and shows Riddick escaping onto a mercenary ship Dark Athena.
On July 29, 2008, it was announced by Activision Blizzard that they had dropped The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena along with eight other games. Leaving the future of the game into question. However later Starbreeze studios announced that the game is near completion and they are looking for a publisher to publish the game. Few months later in October 2008, it was confirmed by Atari that they would publish Riddick. In the time when fate of Riddick was in question, Starbreeze kept working on the game. They also generated enough content in media by December 2008 to make Dark Athena a sequel to their earlier work for all intents and purposes.
