Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is an upcoming video game under the development of Naughty Dog. It is the company behind some of the best games in many genres’ like Crash Bandicoot series and Jak & Daxter series of the platformer genre and the previous game of Uncharted series – Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 platform, since Sony Computer Entertainment now owns Crash Bandicoot. The game was received by critics in a wonderful manner. It is compared to summer blockbuster films because of its high production values and good technical achievements. It went to record sales selling more than one million copies in a single week. As Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a direct sequel for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, so the story of the game starts a couple of years later after the story of Uncharted ends. Following the first game Drake’s new adventure will be base around some very rarely known and unsolved historical mystery. His new areas this time is around one of the best explorer of all time Marco Polo. Marco Polo started his destined voyage from China to his home Italy in 1292. Marco Polo was returning nearly after spending 20 years in the court of the emperor Kublai Khan, with 14 ships and over 600 passengers. However, he arrived on his destiny nearly after one and half year later with one ship and 18 survived passengers. Every minute detail of the journey was described by Marco Polo leaving the question what happened to those ships.

Drake wants to find out what happened to ships and sees a potential of a big treasure. Drakes’ new adventure trip will be a quest to find out the lost fleet of Marco Polo. Very soon in the game, he discovers an unrevealed truth about the journey of Marco Polo. Drake digs out a secret Marco Polo was hiding. Based on what he find out it is revealed that Marco Polo had gone on a secret expedition on behalf of Chinese emperor. His target was to find out lost City of Shambhala or famously known as Shangri-La. There he has to recover a mystical stone known as Cintamani a wish full filling magical stone. The stone as described by Drake as a large Sapphire worth of a billion dollars today. All these facts lead Drake on a new track, going after Marco Polo’s 700 year-old trail. His journey is in the exotic environment of lost City of Shambala. A new character included in the game is Chloe Frazer.

Just like the previous game, gameplay of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be a fusion of 3d Platforming and Third Person Shooter, similar to Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia series. This time however some new gameplay mechanics are involved in the game. First, just like Assassin’s Creed there will be a stealth action segment, it will help you to change the free movement over walls. You can make Nathan Drake flip over many objects for the cover. To make the game interesting Drake will have a darker side, which will turn him into a thief. Artificial intelligence of the enemies is updated to match the new action-stealth gameplay. If Nathan Drake appear in the vision cone of the enemies, even if it is brief they will start hunting for him. On more thing added to the qualities of enemies is they will be more interactive with the nature and follow Nathan if he jumps from ledges or climb on buildings. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be benefited from the fact that Naughty Dog 2.0 Game engine understands the architecture of PlayStation 3 much better than other game engines. Naughty Dog’s aim is to utilize Cell’s SPUs up to 30 %. Due to the 30% usage of the SPUs, the game is expected to be more realistic environments and animations.

As the new co-operative mode is hot in the gaming world, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will feature both co-operative and competitive mode. Maximum three players can be play in the Co-operative mode. Players will take roles of Nathan, Chloe and Sully. Objectives for the mode will be missions with gunfights, teamwork, and platforming. Competitive mode will be between maximum ten players fighting against each other. Deathmatch will have two teams one as “Heroes” and the other as “Villains.” Players can choose character models like Nathan, Sully and Chloe for the Heroes team. There will be two abilities to choose from and use them in the match. A new mode plunder which is similar to the capture the flag mode, instead of flag gold treasure is the one have to capture and return to the their respective base. Player who will carry treasure will become a bit slow and will have to fling the treasure at many points in the game to save it from the players of opposition.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was first revealed by Game Informer in December 2008. The fist trailer showed Drake wounded and lagging though a snowstorm reach a Phurba buried half in the snow. That trailer was rendered in real time using the game’s engine. A second trailer was released soon after; Drake was again shown wounded more seriously from the previous time hanging dangerously from a cliff. A beta phase of the game, which will be playable for the players who will buy the early copies of inFamous.
