Compared to another games of Need for Speed franchise Undercover is more innovative and has a better gameplay. And is considered of longer development cycle. It was stated by experts that Undercover has drawn inspiration from action movies like Transporter. Despite being a good innovative game its reviews were not as expected. All the gaming critics passed it with an OK mark. It scored an average of 66% on most of the gaming critics like GameRanking and Metacritic. Undercover was considered extremely easy because of wider roads and spares traffic, while this may be a design to target a wider audience. Although it received average marks everywhere, but it still leading in sales compared to its rivals such as Rockstar Games’ Midnight Club: Los Angeles and EA’s own Burnout paradise.
